Monte Rosso is the opening salvo of a new filmmaking spirit coming out of Helsinki. Forged in the underground of the Finnish capital, the film attempts to capture the reality of today’s youth in a way not seen before on screen. The stunning ensemble cast consists of amateurs and carefully selected characters, who know the codes, customs and the all important Helsinki slang.
Set in the neighborhood of Punavuori (Monte Rosso in Italian), the film is a comedic romp with both action and romance to spare. Underneath all the razzle dazzle, however, is a more serious meditation on the consequences of extending ones youth deep into adulthood. Shot in gorgeous black & white, the production values of this film are impeccable.
